Much less often than I would like, the Music Muse whomps me upside the head and something creative pops out. Recently, this little parody (that needs a bit of polishing) emerged. It’s helpful to be familiar with Dion’s “The Wanderer” to appreciate it fully.
I sent it out with the “Monday Morning Mailing” (“MMM”) on Oct. 17th, but decided that the potential for a wider audience might be an incentive for including it here:
Oh, well, I’m the type of guy who watches clothes go ’round,
I run a laundromat for the people of the town.
And when the people come to use my new machines
I show ’em how their shirts and slacks and socks come out so clean,
‘Cause I’m a launderer, yeah, I’m a launderer,
My clothes spin round and round and round and round and …
Well, there’s colors on the left and whites go on the right,
I never mix ’em up, ’cause I know the dark from light,
And when you ask me which soap I like the best,
I say I have no faves, ’cause there’s Tide and Fab and Dreft,
‘Cause I’m a launderer, yeah, I’m a launderer,
My clothes spin round and round and round and round and …
Well, the folks walk in and out,
They go thru life without a care.
They’re all just happy as a clown
With their two piles of clothes and their soft’ner right there.
Well, I’m the type of guy who dreams of foam all day,
I’m happy that you’re here – just don’t forget to pay!
And when I find myself falling in a funk,
I hop back in the laundromat and wash some boxer trunks,
‘Cause I’m a launderer, yeah, I’m a launderer,
My clothes spin round and round and round and round and round and round and round.
‘Cause I’m a launderer, yeah, a launderer,
My clothes spin round and round and round and …. (Fade music)
